Collecting Data Pupils will need to consider:
*
where to conduct the survey;
*
the most appropriate time(s) of day to survey traffic flow;
*
how long to spend counting vehicles
(5 minutes may be enough on a major urban bypass, whereas anything up to 20 minutes might be more appropriate on an approach to a small town centre) ;
* into / out of town (centre)

*
types of vehicle to count;
* whether some vehicles are more dangerous because of, for example, their  size, their weight, or their quantity. source:

Each vehicle can be given a value relating to its size and (also therefore the pollution and congestion problems it may cause). This is called a Passenger Car Unit.
