What to do if you find something difficult?

  1. Don’t worry or panic !
  2. Finding something DIFFICULT just means you are LEARNING something NEW.
  3. Read/study it again, think it through.
  4. Ask a friend; see how they have got on so far!
  5. Use classroom resources; PC’s; glossary; text book, etc.
  6. Ask an adult

Symbols used in marking:

  S  = part of your work that was successful     

            (Strength)

 

  T  = part of your work that was not 

             successful (Target for improvement)

 

  N  = what you need to do to improve

             (Next step in learning)

 

  Sp = spelling mistake, use the glossary or

              dictionary to correct

 

            = area to improve

How will your work be marked?

 

  • Acknowledgment marking – checking that the work has been completed.

 

  • Knowledge exercises/past papers – Wrong or right.

 

  • Quality teacher marking – identifies Strengths (S); Target (T); Next step (N).

 

  • Quality marking by other students in the class or as a group

Equipment:

Every lesson you need to bring…

  • your geography book
  • your planner
  • pens, pencils, ruler, coloured pencils
  • any worksheets issued previously

How to present your work:

 

  • write the date on the right hand side of the page
  • give your work a title and underline it with a ruler
  • write homework or classwork in the left hand margin
  • use a sharp pencil for any diagram, map or graph work.
  • Always try to write neatly so that your work can be read easily.
  • Always attach worksheets neatly to your exercise book
  • Always copy up work promptly if you have missed a lesson
  • Always try hard with homework

 

Your ‘Quality’ work will be marked on the following scale:

10         (or A*)     (About Level 8 in Y9)

Excellent

9 or 8     (or A)       (About Level 7 in Y9)

Very Good

8 or 7     (or B)       (About level 6 in Y9)

Good

6 or 5     (or C)       (About Level 5 in Y9)

Satisfactory

4 or 3     (or D)       (About Level 4 in Y9)

Only Fair (some advice/support needed)

Below 3   (or E)        (About Level 3 in Y9)

Disappointing (discuss with your teacher)
