Variations in the passage of
water and
sediment
through a drainage basin produce the major landform features of one
floodplain. The processes of erosion, transport and deposition interact
to produce these landform features. In class the teacher will guide you through floodplain processes including Hjulstrom's curve and landforms of a typical floodplain. Then we will study this exercise about the floodplain of the Usk (with both virtual and actual field visits) Scenario: A housing developer has put in a
planning application to build an estate of 20 large 4 bedroomed houses
and an equal number of smaller affordable homes for rent to local people
on land just east of the Bryn betwen the A40 trunk road and the river
Usk at g.r. 335099. Since you are a geographer the residents at The Bryn have asked you to advise them as to objections they could make to the development in a submission to Monmouthshire County Council. You agree and begin by: 1) Producing an annotated map of the site
showing the main disadvantages of the site. Make sure that all these items
are 'tied together' with explanatory running text. |
