  Aid is a form of help. It is a practical way for rich countries to help poorer countries.  
     
  Organisations who give Aid.  
     
   It can be given in two main ways:  
  Short Term Emergency Relief Aid Aid from governments, organisations, charities to help people survive after natural disaster, or armed conflict. Sometimes called humanitarian aid.  
     
  Long Term Development Aid Aid from governments, organisations, charities to enable countries and communities to ensure people have access to basic needs and can improve their living conditions.

Task: Pairs Imagine that you are to help organise the provision of a safe water supply to a village in Uganda. Which 8 of the following  do you think would be most useful to you? For each one you choose, say how it would be used.

  An example of sustainable development: a simple borehole well with a hand pump which supplies clean water to a small village in Uganda.
